Oldsmobile – Gone But Not Gorgotten

In mechanical circles, the Oldsmobile brand was commonly referred to as General Motors "experimental" division.This proved to be true all the way from their early beginnings at the start of the century to the 1966 Toronado with Front Wheel Drive. While the "experimental division" theory  carried over to the front wheel drive X-body Omega, along with other GM X-bodies. Also, the GM diesel introduced in the late 70's, was first put into an Olds, the brand was nonetheless retired by General Motors shortly before the same was done with the Pontiac Division. They both, however, had hugely successful models in their histories. The Olds Cutlass was the first GM model to sell over a million units and the Pontiac GTO "The Judge" or "Goat" will always be remembered as the muscle car with the "Tiger Paw Tires".
